FMP 004: House Textures

House unwrapped: complete.

House Tileable textures: complete.

I’ve given myself 4 week to build the main house. I’m half way, I’ve got the house modelled and textured, I’m on schedule.

The majority of this week was spent unwrapping, creating tillable textures and adjusting the scale of the mesh to work in-engine.

During the downtime of this week, I also worked on the forest area a little more. When working on one thing for a long period of time I begin to feel myself slow down and lose interest. To work around this I like to work on something else to keep myself fresh. I’ve gotten into the work flow of moving from one piece to another every other day or so. Again, the positives to this is that I’ve always got a fresh eye on my work, however the downside is that I lose momentum.

With the exterior I have made several changes to the colour of foliage, lighting and ground texture to make sure the house feels natural in the environment. This stage requires a lot of trial and error, seeing what works and what doesn’t, apart from this, this stage of creating house has been relatively smooth.

With the main bulk of the texturing completed I plan on making a list of outdoor props I can model to partner with the house. Basically, for a character you have the main body then you give them a prop or a weapon to tell more of a story. What I want to do for the house is model several smaller props to tell a story.
