FMP 014 – Slap-a-Da Basement

This week marks the beginning of the end. The basement, the last of the 3 areas we would create for this project has begun.

Similar to how we started the forest areas and the house, we put together an asset list prioritising what we would need to have modelled first along with what we could put down as stretch goals. Alongside this asset list was an already put together pin board that we set up a while back. The asset list detailed what we would need to model, whether or not it would be modular and final seeing is that we are in a group, who would be working on what.

Along with the asset list being drawn up and reference being collected we also started on the whitebox of the basement. I was given a simple blocked out whitebox that calum had worked on to then make more interesting. The main problem we had on this stage was figuring out how large we could actually make the basement. Already being behind, we decided a smaller scale than we first anticipated it would be would be best. What helped us a great deal with this first week of working on the basement was that a fellow student provided us with a concept we could follow. Lewis Jones, a concept artist in our year whipped up a simple painting of the basement using the references we already found. We’re hoping that with the aesthetics of the basement already established we will be able to save time in the long run and beginning working on what is needed.

I created the table that would be placed in the centre of the room this week. It started out as a simple whitebox, but I decide to make it, just to keep myself busy.

Ha, I know I said I was finished last week but I went back to the living room just to add a few finishing touches. As the whitebox of the basement was under construction, the area for the secret passage that would lead to the basement also needed to change to make it compatible. I worked on this once the size of the basement was determined. Next week I will begin modelling the assets on the asset list.
